Daniel Middleton will be the referee for the U’s clash with Morecambe this weekend.
It is Middleton’s first season as an EFL, having built up a wealth of experience across the National League in the last seven years – it will be his first game in charge of either Colchester United or Morecambe.
Officiating twelve league games and six cup ties this campaign, Middleton has handed out fifty-one yellow cards and three red. His most recent game was between Accrington Stanley and Gillingham on the 13th January, issuing four yellow cards.
Last term he handed out sixty-nine yellow cards and seven reds in twenty-one matches, mostly in the National League.
He will be assisted by Paul Stonier, Graeme Fyvie and Peter Wright.
