Games keep coming thick and fast for Colchester United U21s who will face Swansea City at Maldon & Tiptree on Friday afternoon (KO 12noon).
It will be the U’s second match in the space of three days with the youngsters progressing through to the quarter-finals of the BBC Essex Senior Cup after a penalty shootout win over Walthamstow FC on Tuesday evening.
Their attention will now switch to the Professional Development League when they face the Swans at Park Drive.
Colchester have struggled to find form in the league this season, currently sitting bottom with six points from eleven games.
Liam Bailey’s men are on an unfavourable run of nine consecutive defeats, succumbing to a 4-2 loss against Bristol City in their last league game, which was played over a month ago on 6th December.
They will now, however, aim to maintain their winning form and secure a second consecutive victory.
The Opposition
Swansea City have been in good form throughout the 2023-24 campaign and sit fourth in the league table, just three points behind leaders QPR.
The Swans have managed to amass twenty-six points from fifteen games – winning eight of them, drawing two and losing five.
The Welsh-side are incredibly dangerous in the attacking phase, having scored the most goals (42) in the league. They are also well-organised defensively, letting in twenty-six goals in fifteen matches.
The Swans are doing equally as well in the Premier League Cup and are a draw away from guaranteeing progression to the knock-out stages. After four matches in the competition, they are occupying the second spot with nine points.
A cup final is also awaiting them following their clash against Colchester with the youngsters set on facing The New Saints in the Welsh League Cup on 20th January.
