U’s Players Join in Festive Fun

11 January 2024

First team and u18’s support Community Foundation in December

Throughout December Colchester United players were out and about spreading festive cheer with participants at Community Foundation sessions in Colchester.

Midfielders Jayden Fevrier and Chay Cooper kicked off December meeting participants on the Skills Centre programme at the Jobserve Community Stadium, for their Christmas celebrations on their last session of 2023.

U’s goalkeeper Ted Collins and defender Fiacre Kelleher visited Shrub End on a Thursday evening to meet participants on the Community Foundation’s PAN Disability session, alongside primary and secondary participants on the Shrub End Skills Centre programme. Midfielder Jay Mingi visited the next day to meet and greet participants on Friday’s Skills Centre at Shrub End also.

Senior U’s participants and staff had some guests for their Christmas Party at the Jobserve Community Stadium, as our 60+ social engagement programme welcomed Manny Egbo and Bradley Ihionvein for a festive lunch, fun and games!

As Christmas drew closer the U’s players concluded their visits with Al-Amin Kazeem visiting our Christmas activities to meet all the excited children in the lead up to the big day!

Al Amin shared on his visit: “It was a great feeling seeing the smiles on their faces. It filled me with nostalgia as I was once in that position, as well as admiration for the football club. I am just thankful that I am in a position where I can be an influence on the younger generation. No matter how small of a gesture it is just coming to see them before Christmas and answering their questions. I know I enjoyed the experience and hopefully so did they.”

U’s U18 players, Rashaad Drysdale, Burak Sabah, Andrew Palmer Brown and Makhaya James also attended a morning of Christmas activities to coach alongside Community Foundation staff to support with their studies.

Lewis Dallas, Head of Education at Colchester United shared; “Thank you to the Community Foundation for having the four U18’s come down and engage in Christmas Holiday activities. The players really enjoyed their experience with the children and community staff. We would very much more U18 players to engage with the Community Foundation in school holidays moving forward to support further with their development.”

Community Foundation Participation Manager, Joe Hart shared; “Thank you to all the players for their visits and joining in the festive fun with the participants and staff. We’re very grateful for their time and interaction and they put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces!”
