Colchester United U21s will take on Walthamstow FC in the Fourth Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday 9th January (KO 7:45pm) in what will be their first game of the year.
The U’s will be making a one hour trip down the A12 to Wadham Lodge, the home of the Stow who play in the Isthmian League North Division.
Liam Bailey’s men made it through to the Fourth Round of the competition with a comfortable 4-0 win over Heybridge Swifts in the middle of November at the JobServe Community Stadium and will now face Walthamstow for a spot in the last eight.
Like the U’s, Walthamstow entered the competition in the Third Round and ensured their name would be in the hat with a penalty shoot-out win over Billericay Town last month; the match ended 2-2 after ninety minutes.
If the U’s manage to progress through to the next round they will host either Buckhurst Hill or Canvey Island.
In their last game before Christmas, Colchester succumbed to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Leeds United in the Premier League Cup. The U’s fought hard to keep their knock-out stage dreams alive but went down to ten men with fifteen minutes to go and eventually conceded in the ninety-sixth minute.
They will now aim to put that behind them and start the new year with a victory.
When it comes to Walthamstow FC, they’re enjoying a decent 2023-24 campaign and currently sit tenth in the Isthmian League North Division table.
So far in the league, they’ve played sixteen matches, winning seven, drawing four and losing five.
The London-based club have only played one match since Christmas with their clash against Maldon & Tiptree finishing in a 4-0 loss.
The Stow will now face Wroxham on 6th January before they take on the U’s three days later.

Tickets for the clash will be available to supporters at the gate. They are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions, with Under-16s being able to attend for free.
A matchday programme will also be available to purchase and is priced at £3.
