"We're ready to go" - that's the message from Colchester United boss Hayden Mullins ahead of the U's first game of the season at Carlisle United on Saturday afternoon.
After a pre-season with its own ups and downs, Colchester United will take to the field in Sky Bet League Two at the start of the 2021/22 campaign on Saturday afternoon, kicking off their season at Brunton Park.
It has been all change in North Essex over the summer, with Hayden Mullins and Alex Dyer appointed the management duo at the JobServe Community Stadium, as well as seven players coming through the doors to sign for the club.
And after three months away from playing competitively, Mullins is looking forward to getting underway for the new season.
"We're looking strong and ready to go. There were a few bits we had to try and nail down today, but we're chomping at the bit to get going on Saturday.
"We've recruited some experienced boys, and some real good characters. It has been a really good window for us, and it hasn't finished. The lads we have brought in can only help our young players, to help them grow and bring them on with their development.
"Carlisle are a big club and a strong side. They'll be looking to get straight at us from the off and it will be a tough game to start, it will be a typical League Two game.
"As it's the start of the season, there's an excitement and a buzz. The boys trained really well today and we are really looking forward to it."
