Head Coach prepared for Scunthorpe clash

11 March 2022

Colchester United will prepare for this weekend's game at Scunthorpe just like every other game.

The U's take on the bottom of the table side at the Sands Venue Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and interim Head Coach Wayne Brown isn't taking anything for granted.

A win last weekend against Port Vale saw the U's pull five points clear of the bottom two, but preparations this week have been every bit as extensive and intestive.

Speaking to the local press on Thursday afternoon, Brown insisted that it makes no difference where the opposition are in the table.

"It doesn't matter who we play. Yes it's important to take points off of teams that are around us, and it's certainly imperative that we don't drop points against them, and we've done that.

"It doesn't matter who we play, Port Vale, Carlisle, Forest Green, Oldham, Salford, Orient, it doesn't matter.

"There's three points up for grabs - we'll do our due diligence on the opposition, and see what their strengths and weaknesses are. We then want to nullify those strengths, and look at ways we can hurt them.

"That's the process for any game we play, no matter what the opposition."

The U's go into this weekend's match five points above the drop zone in League Two, with Scunthorpe nine from safety at the foot of the table.

Brown understands the thoughts of people who will be expecting his side to just turn up and beat Scunthorpe, but the former U's centre half knows that it won't be anything like that easy.

"People can get done up in the fact of writing us off against the bigger and better teams in the league and expecting the world against teams that are in and around us.

"That's the nature of the beast, that's only natural for people to think like that.

"But from us within, it's another three points, another opportunity for three points, just like it was last Saturday.

"We'll be doing all we can to prepare the lads in the best way we can to achieve that."
