Goalkeeper’s thoughts ahead of Mariners clash

Sam Hornby was on press duties ahead of Colchester United’s clash against Grimsby Town at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday 16th April (KO 7:45pm).

The goalkeeper began by speaking about his first league start since November 2022 on Saturday against Crawley Town, saying: “I think the lads were excellent from back to front throughout the game. Obviously then to finish with ten men and concede so late into injury time and then get over the line, we were all delighted down there.”

It’s been a tough year for the twenty-nine-year-old who hasn’t enjoyed much playing time during the 2023-24 campaign.

Speaking about his spell on the side-lines, Sam said: “I'm not going to lie and say it's been easy. I’m not going to lie that this year has been easy because it's probably been one of the most challenging years that I’ve had in football from the start of the season up until now.

“But I've just kept my head down and worked hard and I think it shows to anyone out there if you keep working hard, keep your standards high every day, give your 100 percent every day in training, then hopefully good things come and you get rewarded with game time like I did on Saturday.”
