Colchester United will take on Grimsby Town at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday 16th April (KO 7:45pm).

With less than two weeks of the season remaining, the U’s have four games in which they need to get the necessary points to stay clear of the bottom two in League Two. The first of the four games comes on Tuesday, in a rearranged match against the side one place higher up the table, Grimsby Town.

The Opposition

The Mariners will feel that the job of avoiding relegation is almost done, with six points separating them and Sutton, and a ten-goal advantage in goal difference. They of course will want to get themselves mathematically safe with at least a point on Tuesday night, but three points for the U’s will create a four-point gap to the bottom two.

David Artell was appointed as Grimsby manager last November, and their four victories and four draws in the past eleven matches have seen them virtually safe with three games remaining. The last of the victories came on Saturday, with an impressive 3-0 win at promotion chasing Crewe.

Whilst talk outside of Grimsby will be that they are safe now, Artell insists that the job isn’t done yet, and his side will be going all out to win in North Essex. After the Crewe victory, he told Grimsby Live: “We’re not safe yet and we’ve still got three big games left.

“We know what we need to do. It’s not done yet and we will have to perform like that again. We need another point to be mathematically safe, but we will go into the game on Tuesday against Colchester to win.

“We were outstanding today, and our recent form had suggested that we can take anyone. That performance has been in us for a while. Our ball retention and our shape on the ball was very good and I don’t think Crewe really got into our half until later in the game.”

Last Time We Met

It was a fantastic away day for U’s fans the last time these two sides met. Colchester ran out 3-2 winners from an exciting clash, which saw goals from Joe Taylor, Zach Mitchell and Arthur Read.
