Colchester United supporters have voted Jay Mingi's match-winning strike against Newport County as their favourite from March.
After Ellis Iandolo bundled in an equaliser for the U’s with fifteen minutes to go, it looked like there would only be one winner when Newport visited the JobServe Community Stadium on Good Friday.
But Danny Cowley’s side were made to wait for their special moment, with Jay Mingi’s strike coming in the second minute of stoppage time, handing the U’s their first home win of 2024 and a first home win for the Cowleys since their arrival.
And speaking about the strike, Jay said it was special to pick up the award, as voted for by Colchester United fans.
“It’s amazing, I’ve never won a goal of the month competition before. I’m really grateful to all the fans that voted for my goal. I really appreciate it.
“The occasion was amazing, it being a last minute winner. I’ve never scored one of those either so to hear the crowd screaming, it was a good feeling.”
