Colchester United will welcome Doncaster Rovers to the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday night (KO 7:45pm) in what will be the U’s thirty-sixth Sky Bet League Two clash of the season.

The U’s will be aiming to bounce back from their defeat to Barrow last Saturday and secure their first victory in North Essex under Danny Cowley.

But, standing in the way of that will be a resurgent Doncaster side, which has succumbed to just one defeat in their last eight matches.

After strengthening in January, the Rovers have managed four wins and three draws, which have propelled them up the league table all but guaranteeing their Football League status for next season.

The Yorkshire-based club now sits in nineteenth place with forty-three points – eleven more than the U’s but with one more game played.

Last time out, Doncaster faced play-off-chasing Crewe Alexandra at home and ran out 2-0 winners from the tough clash.

Speaking after the match, Grant McCann praised his players, saying: “I thought we played well. We were very controlled in the game and scored two goals from set plays which was good because we haven’t done that enough this season.”

He added: “I’m not the sort of person that would ever let a season peter out. The players know that and they know I wasn’t happy with them at half-time because I felt when we scored, we took our foot off the gas.

“I gently reminded them at half-time that we won’t allow that at this football club. We want them to put the foot on the gas and go and get the next goal, no matter who we are playing.

“We want to keep the positivity and the season certainly won’t peter out. We will be ultra-competitive in every single game. This one is done and we’re onto the next one.”

The U’s will have to watch out for a couple of players who could cause plenty of trouble under JCS lights. One of them is Joe Ironside [pictured below] who sits in the top ten of League Two top scorers with fourteen goals and four assists to his name in thirty-five appearances.

More threats could come from Hakeeb Adelaku, who since joining Doncaster Rovers on loan from Lincoln City in January, has had eight goal contributions in nine league matches (four goals and four assists).

Last Time We Met

The U’s succumbed to a 3-1 loss on 28th November 2023 at the Eco-Power Stadium. The hosts took the lead after thirty-three minutes through Tom Smith’s own goal, but Colchester equalised ten minutes later thanks to Joe Taylor’s effort. However, the Rovers found two goals in the second half setting the scoreline at 3-1.
