U's take on the Saddlers at JCS

Colchester United will welcome Walsall to the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon (KO 3PM), a first home game in four weeks for the U’s following recent postponements against Stockport County and Doncaster Rovers.

It’s been another stop-start week for the U’s with Tuesday evening’s game falling foul of the weather, with the team still searching for their first home win under Danny Cowley.

And it will be another tough test for Colchester United with an in-form Walsall visiting the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Opposition

The Saddlers have lost just one of their last eight, winning five of those to push them into an unlikely play-off contention.

Matt Sadler’s side put together a string of victories against Mansfield Town, Morecambe, Harrogate Town, Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers before a defeat against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Ensuring that it wouldn’t drop their form, Walsall picked up a point against high-flying Barrow on Tuesday evening, with Sadler saying it was disappointing his side didn’t make it all three against the Bluebirds.

“The effort that the lads put in was unbelievable. We can’t help but feel disappointed we didn’t win the game.

“It hinged on a couple of chances that would have doubled our lead – it would have been a different game then.

“However, I’m so proud of the work that everyone put in. We were walking wounded towards the end. The determination, desire and togetherness to get the goal and stay in the game was incredible.

“I can’t hide the fact that we’re disappointed we didn’t win the game, but I’m so proud of the effort people put in to make sure we didn’t go home empty-handed against a good team.”

Sadler will be hoping that his men find goals at the JobServe Community Stadium and he’ll be relying on players such as Isaac Hutchinson and Mo Faal to do just that.

Hutchinson has been in prolific form this season and has eighteen goal contributions (ten goals and eight assists) in thirty-seven League Two matches.

Faal is a new addition, having joined Walsall in January on loan from West Brom. He has so far made eleven league appearances for the Saddlers, already scoring two goals and assisting once.

Last Time We Met

Isaac Hutchinson’s strike after sixty-five minutes was enough for Walsall to secure a 1-0 victory against the U’s at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on 2nd September 2023.
