Match Preview | Crawley Town (A)

In abundance of home games hides an away clash

12 April 2024

Colchester United will take on Crawley Town in their next Sky Bet League Two clash on Saturday 13th April (KO 3pm).

The U’s will aim to turn their fortunes around following two tough matches against top of the league Stockport and promotion-chasing Wrexham.

The Red Devils, however, are also likely to prove difficult opponents as they are on a quest to secure play-offs themselves.

The Opposition

Crawley currently occupy the last play-off guaranteeing spot with sixty-five points after forty-two matches.

The Red Devils find themselves two points behind Barrow in sixth and three points ahead of AFC Wimbledon in eighth, who have also played one more match.

In good news for the U’s, Scott Lindsey’s men seem to feel more comfortable away from home, although their impressive streak of four consecutive away victories came crushing down last Saturday when they were beaten 4-1 by Wrexham at STōK Cae Ras.

Their last three home matches finished in a 2-0 loss against Doncaster, a 1-1 draw against Stockport and a last-minute win against ten-man Notts County.

Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that Crawley will be distracted by their mediocre home form with Lindsey adding that the heavy defeat at Wrexham will not define the rest of their campaign as they seek a top-seven finish.

He continued: “We’re disappointed with the outcome of the game but it’s not going to define what we’re going to do moving forward.

“We’re still in a really good position and we’ve got some really good games to come and we look forward to them.

“It’s a difficult place to come and the manner of the goals we conceded was disappointing but we wipe our mouth and move on and we’ve got to move on pretty quickly.”

Lindasy will be hoping that a few of his key players turn up on Saturday afternoon, especially Danilo Orsi [pictured below] and Klaidi Lolos.

The two forwards have thirty-five goal contributions between them with Orsi scoring an impressive seventeen goals in forty-one League Two matches, adding three assists.

Lolos has an equally notable record this season, managing to find the net ten times in forty-two appearances, also providing five assists.

Last Time We Met

The U’s succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the JobServe Community Stadium on 9th December 2023. The Red Devils went ahead thanks to strikes from Liam Kelly and Orsi, before Joe Taylor found a consolation goal in the ninety-seventh minute.
