First Team Visits Unite Our Communities

15 April 2024

On Monday 18th March we were thrilled to have Colchester United’s first team out visiting a range of our Community sessions once again, meeting participants, sharing insights into the career of a professional footballer and inspiring the next generation.

Our Boys Development Centre football session, at the Tiptree Dome, had insightful visits from defender Riley Harbottle and winger Harry Anderson and our Male Football College Players spent enrichment time with midfielder Cameron McGeehan.

Centre-back Zach Mitchell, midfielder Alistair Smith and forward Brad Ihionvien attended our Adult evening football Refugee and Pan-Disability members, bringing a huge sense of community, pride and excitement to all involved – uniting everyone through the power of football.

A particular highlight of the evening was when Ali Smith and Brad Ihionvien were given the task of becoming Managers, each taking a group to steer through the final matches. After words of advice and encouragement Brad’s team came out as the victors, following some great goals and tackling.

We spoke to Brad and Ali after the session, and this is what they shared with us;

“I enjoyed my time with the guys, it’s always good to see them and feel the support from everyone and give the same feeling back.”

“It was a really enjoyable time with the teams, their togetherness and hard work was inspiring!”

At Colchester United Community Foundation we are so lucky to have this ongoing, additional support from the Club and the Players, inspiring, enriching and uniting our communities. Thank you to all involved.

Our Adult Pan-Disability sessions take place every Monday evening at the JobServe Community Stadium, 5pm-6pm. Sessions are free, with spaces available to book for those aged 18+.
