Colchester United were saddened to hear the passing of former U's full back Alf Marshall.

The former U's defender played for the club between 1958 and 1961, notching up thirty appearances after signing from Dagenham.

After a successful trial with the U's, Dagenham were given a sum of £25 for the transfer of Marshall, remaining at Colchester United for three seasons before moving on to Clacton Town.

Following his playing career, he spent time as manager of Braintree along with ex-U's reserve player Alan Springett in the 1970s.

The thoughts of Colchester United are with Alf's family at this sad time.
